via Grütschalp
The most popular mode of transportation to Mürren involves an aerial cable car ride to Grütschalp, from where you’ll continue your journey to Mürren by train.
TIP: This route drops you off on the northern side of Mürren, so if you plan to spend the night at Hotel Eiger or Eiger Guesthouse, this is the more convenient route since both accommodations are located directly across from the rail station.
Lauterbrunnen to Grütschalp (Stop #1 of 2)
Make your way to the Bergbahn Lauterbrunnen-Mürren station where you will travel in an aerial cableway that will transport you to the Grütschalp summit station.
The Bergbahn Lauterbrunnen-Mürren is located directly across from the northern end of the Lauterbrunnen train station. At the train station, you can purchase a round-trip ticket to and from Mürren if you plan to just visit for the day.
You also have the option to buy a “single journey” ticket and get your return ticket once you arrive at the Mürren BLM station to add a level of flexibility to your visit.
A point-to-point (single journey) ticket from Lauterbrunnen to Mürren via Grütschalp is CHF 5.90.– and CHF 11.80.– for a single + return ticket with a Half-Fare Travelcard. The full price for a single journey ticket (i.e., you’re not using a Half-Fare Travelcard) is CHF 11.80.– and CHF 23.60.– for the single + return journey.
TIP: If your stay in Mürren extends beyond 2+ days, it might be beneficial to buy the Berner Oberland Pass, which saves you the hassle of buying a new ticket every time you travel to/from Mürren. The Swiss Travel Pass also covers the full journey.
Each cabin of the aerial cableway can accommodate up to 100 people and completes the journey to Grütschalp in approximately 4 minutes. Be sure to have your cameras ready as the ride provides picturesque views of the valley below.

The train will pause at Winteregg during the journey, but no transfer is necessary. Simply remain on the train, and the subsequent stop will be Mürren.

Hike from Lauterbrunnen
to Mürren
For those seeking a touch of adventure, you have the opportunity to hike from Lauterbrunnen to Mürren. This 4.1-mile trail (one-way) is typically regarded as a challenging route, requiring an average of 2 hours and 51 minutes to finish.
The first 1.5 miles are pretty strenuous and steep for the majority of the hike, with an elevation gain of 3,474 ft. But, in return, you are rewarded with fantastic views of the Bernese Alps. The best times to visit this trail are May through October.
The trail is well marked, but if you encounter any difficulties, the locals are likely to speak English, making it easy to ask for directions.
⚠️ The trail is known for having muddy conditions, so I recommend investing in waterproof hiking boots (men / women) along with durable trekking poles to enhance your hiking experience.
Once you reach Grütschalp, the trail will split into two different routes, each with varying levels of difficulty.
Opting for the leisurely option, the Grütschalp to Murren trail follows a well-maintained path that winds through the nearby forest and passes through Winteregg.
This route is suitable for families with children and is estimated to take approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes. In Winteregg, you’ll find a small restaurant where you can pause for a meal or refreshments.
For a more challenging trail, opt for The Mountain View Trail, which ascends high above the rail line and passes through Bletschenalp and Almendhubel. Allocate around 3 hours to complete. The Mountain View Trail offers unobstructed views and is not nearly as populated as the lower route mentioned above.
